The Amazing SpidermanSpiderman 2…Just got back.  I am not a great movie reviewer but I do have a peculiarly accurate memory for certain details as well as a desire to see justice done.  I feel that something here is amiss.  I am an old man now but it hasn’t been THAT long since I faithfully followed your friendly neighborhood web-slinger through comics, TV cartoons, and even a 33 1/3 rpm vinyl album.  To say that I was a fan would be an understatement.  Having said that, I was more than willing to cater to my small boy’s request to brave the crowds and watch the latest reincarnation of Aunt May’s favorite nephew and New York’s “favorite” son.  Initial reaction was positive.  It was big, loud, and not overly complicated as a summer blockbuster should be.  However, all through the movie a tingling annoyance, not unlike our hero’s spider sense, bothered me.  They are really playing fast and loose with the story.

<spoiler alert>  If you haven’t see the movie you might want to go right now and get tickets.  It is probably showing somewhere near you and it is definitely worth a viewing.  It is really good in digital Hi-def. 3D.  The spoilers I am alerting you to, gentle reader, are details from the original story, not necessarily the film.  Here goes…

In 1962, in Amazing Fantasy #15, Peter Parker was bitten by an radioactive spider and the rest is history…amazingly profitable history and merchandising rights, and copy rights, and royalties.  Spiderman is the flagship character and mascot of the largest comics publisher in the world (as well as what is rapidly becoming the most profitable movie production house in America).  Based upon whichever biography one reads, Spiderman was invented by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, or a combination of the three.  He was a teenaged “everyman” who had greatness thrust upon him by a million to one accident, and responsibility thrust on him by the tragic consequences of his own actions.  Peter and his supporting cast brought to life an alternate dimension very similar to our own but filled with amazing and sometimes frightening differences.  That is how I felt after watching this most recent movie.

In the comic story line, Gwen Stacy, Peter’s initial love interest, and Harry Osborne are all friends.  Harry’s father, Norman, becomes Spiderman’s arch nemesis, and Electro is a Caucasian.  The Rhino is a big guy in a suit and Professor Smyth is an employee of the King Pin.  Needless to say, Marvel is drastically rewriting history and it bothers me.  I felt the same cognitive dissonance that someone who is just beginning to feel the effects of Alzheimer’s Dementia must feel each day.  I understand the concept of editorial license and I am sure Marvel has perfectly good reasons for rewriting my childhood but what bothers me is WHY??  The story doesn’t NEED revamping.  It is still relevant and compelling.  The property is still amazingly profitable after 50 years and Spiderman is an icon.  Why mess with it?

Perhaps it is the way of things…The world changes.  It might interest you to know that in the cartoon story arc, the original Spiderman, Peter Parker, is, in fact, dead and his consciousness rests within the mind of his mortal enemy Dr. Octopus.  Could it get anymore convoluted?  In April of 2014, Parker’s brain returns to his body and there is no telling where it will go from there.

Well I’m glad I could get that out in the open.  It was really bothering me.  I also needed an excuse to write something as I have been sorely lacking in content lately.  I promise to return to form as soon as school is out.  Meanwhile, if you get the chance, give Spiderman 2 a look.  I like this guy better than Toby McGuire (he looks too much like Frodo from LOTR) and Harry Osborne was right…He does have an impressive uni-brow.

Excelsior (you know that is Styrofoam packing peanuts right)

A sermon on Gratitude loosely following a chapter from Max Lucado’s book, “You’ll Get Through It”. The sermon was delivered on 12/1/2013 at Central Baptist Church. We need to remember that whatever it is, we don’t own it. We are just borrowing it.

As I look back upon today and the amazing opportunities I have been given, one thing comes to mind…Man I am POOPED!! In the last 2 days I have driven almost 700 miles, swam over half a mile, and then walked ALL day in search of cryptid life-forms. Along the way I met new friends, faced heartache, fear, and loss, and also ate a pretty tasty chicken-fried steak at Magel’s in Paris, TX. The only thing that I DIDN’T get to see was a monster. 😦
Lyle signed my copyOur intrepid guide, Lyle Blackburn, could not have BEEN a better person to head out into the Sulfur River Wilderness with. Lyle was knowledgeable, down-to-Earth, and very entertaining. If you get a chance to see him in person, by ALL MEANS take advantage of it. I am QUITE PROUD to say that I was one of 13 lucky people to be the first ever to join Lyle on a tour of the Boggy Creek area at the First Annual Boggy Creek Festival. He showed us the Willie Smith Bean Field made famous by the movie Legend of Boggy Creek. We crossed Boggy Creek twice and even stopped and got off the bus to see what we could find. We also spent an hour with Smokey Crabtree. He is 86 years old and still talking about the monster that changed both his life and the town of Fouke, AR.

Be sure to check out my blog site in the next few days as I get the pictures and the video edited and posted. I think you will be amazed at what we found and what we did. Be sure to check out the links in this post and if you have a chance to visit Fouke, AR, be sure you are in doors before dark. The creature may very well be traveling the creeks again. PS. Lyle Blackburn, if you happen to ever read this and would comment on my blog it would really make my day.

The First Annual Boggy Creek Festival

Day 1 of the expedition: We have arrived at base camp and established a perimeter.  Dinner was a quiet affair as each member of our research team was lost in thought as to the consequences of tomorrow’s journey.  I can not shake the eerie feeling that we are being observed by beings whose purposes we can not know.  The approaching darkness brings no comfort nor will the night bring rest I fear.

Our plan tomorrow is to link with Lyle Blackburn, another cryptobiolgist and rhythm guitarist.  Lyle has been featured on the Discovery Channel, Coast to Coast AM, and the CBS Network.  He is world-famous for his knowledge of our quarry and it’s habits.   I only hope he is as competent as his book makes him out to be.  Lyle will be guiding us on the bulk of our expedition through various areas known to attract the creature.

I’m not sure what to expect. I just want to tell everyone that if we don’t make it back, leave my stuff alone. I’m sorry I just want to apologize to Mike’s mom and Josh’s mom and my mom
and I’m sorry to everyone. I was very naive.umm..no that’s the wrong movie. Sorry about that. Anyhow, we leave at dawn (or about 8:30 am) tomorrow. Wish us luck.

Picture if you will…You’re at the lake, floating on an inflatable raft in the cool azure blue. A light breeze tickles your wet skin as you look up to the spotless blue perfection above. As you look down you notice a tiny invader in your serenity. A small insect purposefully striding across the surface of the water toward you. How can this be? Has the insect messiah come to deliver his people to the promised land? I’m gonna say “pro’lly not”.

gerris02The picture to the left is a common Water Strider.  This little miracle operates by Physics and Chemistry rather than by supernatural support, however, they all come from the same source and were created by the same designer so it really doesn’t matter.  What’s important is how the chemistry works in the natural and how the analogy can apply to the supernatural.

Notice in the picture that the insect’s legs do NOT displace any water at all.  If you look closely at the tips of the legs in contact with the surface of the water you will see that the water surface appears to distort where the legs touch, almost as if the insect were walking on a thin film of plastic wrap.  A boat, floating on the water, would sit lower and actually displace a portion of the water.  That is, after all, the definition of floating.

An object floats only if it is buoyant in the substance in which it rests.  Buoyancy is defined as…
“the upward force on a body immersed or partly immersed in a fluid” (http://www.askdefine.com)

The object is supported by the amount of water it displaces because the water produces an upward force as the object sinks in.  If the mass of the object is less than the mass of the volume of water displaced, the object will float.  All of this is not relevant, however, because the object in question, the insect, does NOT float.

Just as on that long ago Sea of Galilee, this little insect is actually walking ON and not floating IN the water.  His mass is very small and the long legs spread the weight out over a large enough surface area that he is able to walk on the surface of the water just as on solid ground.  He does not sink in or displace any water.  He does not depend on buoyancy.  He does depend, however, on the unique chemistry and physics of the water molecule.

Water is composed of one Oxygen atom in a covalent bond with two Hydrogen atoms.  The Hydrogen atoms are composed of a single proton and a single electron.  A covalent bond is one in which the atoms SHARE the electrons.  As you may know,  electrons orbit the nuclei of atoms. The outer set of electrons, called the valence electrons, are used by the atom to bond with other atoms to form molecules.  A covalent bond occurs when the outer electrons orbiting a nucleus begin to spend time orbiting the nucleus of another nearby atom.  When that occurs, a new compound is formed and the chemical properties of the original molecules are changed.  In our case, two gasses bind together to form a liquid with some pretty amazing properties.

The Oxygen atom has many more electrons orbiting its nucleus than do the Hydrogen atoms.  The two electrons from the Hydrogen atoms begin to orbit, sharing time between the Hydrogen atoms and the Oxygen atom.  At any given time there are more electrons around the Oxygen end of the molecule than there are at the Hydrogen end.  This gives the Oxygen end a tendency towards a negative charge.  This results in the Hydrogen end (composed of basically two protons) a tendency towards a positive charge.  When a molecule has a partial positive charge at one end and a partial negative charge at the other, we say that the molecule is “polar”.  It has poles like a magnet.  This condition is the source of all of water’s peculiar properties and it is what gives our little friend the ability to duplicate what only one man has ever accomplished.  (Well actually two managed it but only one was really successful.  The other…well lets just say that he walked further on water than either you or I are ever likely to.)

The arrangement of water as a polar molecule has exactly the effect that you would suspect.  The positive and negative areas are attracted to the corresponding negative and positive regions of the water molecules surrounding it.  Water molecules act like tiny magnets.  This albeit weak, attraction between polar molecules is called Hydrogen Bonding.  It does some very strange things to water.  One of the most unusual is the property of cohesion.  Water molecules tend to stick to each other.

If you have ever waxed a car and then driven into a rain storm you have seen water “bead up” on the hood.  Water forms droplets of considerable size because the molecules are attracted to and hold onto each other with surprising tenacity.  An excellent way to see this for yourself is the following experiment…

You will need a penny, an eyedropper, a bottle of water, and a bottle of some organic solvent (acetone – nail polish remover, or alcohol (90% isopropyl, not that cheap Wal-Mart mix) will work.  Start with the water and see how many drops you can drop on the penny before the puddle you are creating breaks and runs off.  Now try the same with the NON-POLAR solvent.  Having done this experiment many times over with my students from year to year I can verify that it is possible to drop over 100 drops of water onto the surface of a penny before it runs off.  With alcohol you might get 30 or 40 and with acetone, even less.  The non-polar liquids lack cohesion.  The molecules are neutral and not attracted to each other.  In short, those liquids have no SURFACE TENSION.  If you waxed a car and then ran off into an alcohol shower you would find that the liquid would not form beads.  Also the miraculous little creature above would sink helplessly beneath the waves of a lake of acetone, never to rise again.  The liquid would not support him, not because he was too heavy but because he did not have a surface of molecules holding on to each other, to support him.  The boiling point of water, its ability to gather and hold heat, the fact that liquid water is more dense than frozen water, as well as this little guy’s ability to stand on the surface supported only by surface tension; all these unusual behaviors are properties of water’s unique chemical and physical makeup.

“Why”, you ask, “do we REALLY need a lesson in the chemistry of water?”  Perhaps not, but we MIGHT be able to draw some insight from an analogy on the way water behaves.  It is said that opposites attract and indeed, the positive and negative parts of each water molecule do attract each other, but the result is that every water molecule, and each is identical to the others, is attracted to its neighbor.  They have the same nature and so they are attracted to each other; not what you might expect.  As Christians, we have indwelling each of us, the same nature.

“For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ.” (1 Cor. 2:16)

The nature of Jesus Christ is in each and every Christian.  Something in all Christians resonates at the same frequency and THIS force or effect is what pulls us together in His service.

“And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,” (Acts 2:46)

Like the early disciples, we, if we allow Christ to indwell us fully, are held together by His nature.  Because of this attraction we can be more than the sum of our parts.  Just as water boils at a much higher temperature than it should, the Christian can show incredible patience through the most trying of times.  As a thin stream of water will bend away from an oppositely charged object, so the committed Christian can overcome a temptation or obstacle that he or she would, in their own strength, be destroyed by.

Perhaps there is a lesson to be learned here. Sometimes, opposites repel and similar things attract.  However, in order to experience this power you must partake of the nature of the source.  Allow Christ free rein in your life and you will find an incredible source of strength.  You might even walk on water.

I began a missive the other day concerning relativity and time dilation. I lost the thread about half way through and could NOT pull it together. While talking to our preacher earlier this week it dawned on me what exactly I was trying to say. I would like to first caveat my comments by saying that if you are of the Calvinist persuasion you will not like or agree with what I am about to say but I believe I can support my position with scripture.
There is a debate in Christian circles (hah! yeah like there is only ONE) concerning the doctrine of predestination versus the idea that all men are called to salvation. I can see both sides of the issue but I believe there is more scriptural basis for the idea that God calls all men and each has a right to choose, free of any destiny.

Romans 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might
be the firstborn among many brethren.

Romans 8:30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom
he justified, them he also glorified.

Ephesians 1:5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good
pleasure of his will,
Most followers of the Hyper-Calvinist doctrine use at least one of the preceding verses as their justification for over applying the idea of predestination. The doctrine of predestination is generally accepted to mean ” the divine foreordaining of all that will happen, esp. with regard to the salvation of some and not others. It has been particularly associated with the teachings of St. Augustine of Hippo and of Calvin.” (Merriam-Webster).

The trouble with that doctrine is that its purveyors mistake intention with foreknowledge. Once again, to define terms, foreknowledge is considered to mean “awareness of something before it happens or exists.” (Merriam-Webster). God is aware of the choices we will make but that does not mean He orchestrates them. The Bible is VERY clear about God’s intentions toward men concerning salvation.
1 Tim. 2:3-4 “This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth”
2 Pet. 3:9  “The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance”

Salvation is open to “whosoever will”. We are instructed to believe and be saved. God would that all people should abide with him.

Does God have foreknowledge? Is He aware that some will not accept His gift? Yes but does that mean He ordered things to be that way in infinity past? NO. To say that would imply that all things are destined to be and that God’s will can never be thwarted. This is not the case. Our actions can hinder God’s will. It happens every Sunday in churches across America. Someone in the grip of making a decision looks down the aisle as they are preparing to step out during an invitation only to see some jaded, bored Christian texting or tweeting or playing Angry Birds during the invitation. Immediately the devil begins to whisper into the potential convert’s ear about how all these people are hypocrites and he or she should wait until they find a REAL church to be saved. The will of God is thwarted by simple human indifference. The mighty arm of God stopped dead still by some thoughtless child misbehaving.

Psalm 78:41 Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.

1.Matthew 13:58 And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

It is not only possible but fairly easy to balk God’s will. It is, however, a very dangerous and foolish thing to do, and the consequences are nearly always disastrous.

Finally, We return to the very verse most often used as justification for absolute election to, in fact, justify the more Arminian view (even though we are NOT Arminian and categorically renounce the idea of falling from grace).

Romans 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might
be the firstborn among many brethren.

According to Romans 8:29 God predestined those whom He foreknew or had foreknowledge of that they might be brothers of His son Jesus Christ.  Who, if anyone, did God NOT foreknow.  He was aware of all of us from the beginning of time and so all of us are intended to be among the brethren of Christ.  He also knew that some would not accept that offer.  He still reaches out to those with all the power and sincerity that the conviction of the Holy Spirit can muster if for no other reason than to hope that they will change their minds.  Free will is a powerful force in the universe.  We may have no other power to call our own but we always have the power to choose.  God’s view is not limited to one destiny path for all humanity.  There are hundreds of millions of individual threads of possibility each leading inexorably to the same place but each taking a different route through the lives of believers and unbelievers alike.  All of these threads are possible.  All you have to do is choose.  Choose Jesus.

Relativity and Time Dilation September 17, 2013

Albert-Einstein-007Some days just seem slower than others. Perhaps there is a reason for this beyond a lack of patience.  During a recent physics lecture I was introduced to the idea of Time Dilation with respect to differences in velocity between two objects.  Albert Einstein, the distinguished gentleman to our left, initially described the effect in his work on special relativity.

For the better part of human history we have considered time to be invariant.  One second is one second no matter who or where you are.  In his paper, “On the Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies“, Albert Einstein proposed and supported the idea that time was, for the most part, based upon one’s frame of reference.  Galileo and others had suggested the idea many years before but Einstein’s work provided the math to support the observation.

An event, any occurrence that can be plotted according to time and position in space, can be observed relative to a frame of reference in Space-Time.  Einstein also defined space and time as two sides of the same coin.  Both are inextricably connected.  Thus an event may be located in reference to it’s location along the X, Y, and Z axis as well as a point along the time line.  Within it’s frame of reference, the velocity of a moving object may be accurately measured and known.

However, if the event is viewed from a different frame of reference it is possible for the coordinates to appear different to the observer.  In effect, the position, translation, and location in the time line may appear quite different.  Time is not a constant.  The new positions in space time may be calculated through a modestly complicated series of equations called the Lorentz Transformations.  Using these equations it is possible to take the X, Y, and Z coordinates and the time line position of an event in one frame of reference and determine the new position in space and time in another frame of reference.  Does anyone else need a Tylenol?

For a practical example, imagine two space vehicles traveling past each other in opposite directions, passing close enough so that both crews have a view of the interior of each other’s craft.  As they pass each other and both crews observe, the clock in each of their respective ships would appear to be keeping correct time while the clock in the ship across the way would appear to be going slower as it passed.  It turns out that not only do the clocks appear to be going slower but they indeed are moving at different speeds with respect to each other according to the frame of reference of the observer.  The difference in time (Δt) for both frames of reference may be calculated using the Lorentz Translations.  Time is not a constant.

There are many consequences to this strange behavior of time.  One of the most interesting is the idea of “Time Dilation”.  As an object moves away from the Earth, for example, and its attendant frame of reference, time for the object remains constant but the time stream on the Earth moves much faster.  One popular example is the “Twin Paradox”  One identical twin leaves Earth on a space ship and returns, for him, a few years later only to find that his or her identical twin is now very elderly.  As the velocity with which the frames of reference separates, the difference in the two time streams increases.

2 Peter 3:8 “But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”

God is not bound by our conventions.  We are not able to observe from His frame of reference.  In a real sense He is just beginning creation and, at the same time, ending it. He moves through time just as we move through space. In a sense we really are “already over on the other side.” If you are saved you are as sure for heaven as though you were already there. We have to read the book from front to back but God can see both ends at once. There is a lesson here somewhere but I am just not smart enough to bring it out.

A Grim Fairytale August 27, 2013

schoolI read this today while sitting and waiting for the copy machine to finish. I did not write it but I am paraphrasing it. I would give credit but the author was not listed. Like many things, it is something I WISH I had written:

A Grim Fairytale.
Once upon a time there was a king who decided to honor the greatest and most successful of his subjects. He declared a holiday and called all his subjects together for a banquet to celebrate the best of his kingdom. One by one, the wisest and best of his subjects were called up to receive honor and rewards for their service to the kingdom.

The first to be called was a famous doctor. He worked tirelessly to cure one and all of every disease known. He gave his time and efforts to rich and poor alike. Of all the physicians of the kingdom, he was the undisputed chief and yet he was a modest and kind-hearted man. As he walked up the stairs to the throne, clothed in the finest garments, the crowd burst into cheers. The king presented him with great rewards for his service to the kingdom.

The next to be called was a brilliant engineer. He had given his life to building great works to benefit the kingdom. He built vast bridges, tall towers, and mighty buildings and each construction was of the highest quality. He knelt before the king, arrayed in the finest garments money could buy, the picture of success. The king heaped praise upon him for his contributions.

One after another, the best and brightest of each profession was called forth and the king presented each with honors and awards for the skills they possessed and the contributions they had made to the kingdom. Until finally the last name on the list was called.

A modest looking elderly gentleman stepped forward. His clothes were clean but threadbare and worn. His shoulders stooped slightly and he squinted through spectacles as he approached the throne. “There must be some mistake”, said the king. “I wish to honor the most successful of my subjects”. “This fellow does not look like he has contributed much at all.”

The wisest of the king’s councilors stepped to his side and said, “But your majesty, this is the teacher who educated all of these other men.” “He taught the doctor to read.” “He taught the engineer to count.” “He is responsible for making them what they are.” “He taught them knowledge but also gave them wisdom and compassion as well.”

The king came down from his throne, took the old gentleman by the arm and escorted him up and sat him in the king’s chair. “What possible reward can I give you”, said the king. “What would you ask of me after all these years of service?” “As you are responsible for much good in my kingdom, great will be your reward.”

This is a wonderful story but remember…it’s a fairytale. Educators spend a lifetime in a career with little monetary reward and often, little respect or acknowledgement from society. We do what we do because it needs to be done. The work is its own reward. Often educators are capable of making a much more lucrative living in some other field but be glad that they don’t. Think about it for a moment. If no one taught, what would you have learned. If you can read this fairytale, thank a teacher.

Our land is hurting.  Who is to blame?

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14

A pastor spoke today on the If/Then arrangement that we have with our creator and it struck a chord within my own heart and mind.  He was making the point that the relationship of the Christian, with God, is based on actions and reactions.  In this verse God is speaking to His people and He tells them that if they will humble themselves, repent, and call upon Him that He will heal their land.  This verse is being  mentioned very often in our dark period of American history as a call to action and a sign of hope.  I think, however, that it is being misinterpreted.

We Christians blame the immoral condition of our country for the cultural and economic woes that we are experiencing, and to that extent we are correct.  However, most of the things we are upset about may be attributed to the unregenerate population in our land.  Abortion policy is the product of non-believers, for example.  The removal of every Christian symbol or statement from public display is not the product of the church member.  The mutilation of the holiday season by promoting it as a time of peace and love and understanding and at the same time attempting to deny and remove the very reason for its existence is not something that saved people implemented.  In short, the things we blame for our decline are the policies and devices of worldly people, not Christians.  Here in lies the revelation that was given to me during the sermon today.

God is deeply and personally concerned with the doings of His people.  He watches as we work and worship and while away the hours we are given.  He provides, He protects, and He occasionally paddles us when we need it.  He is actively involved in and concerned with the lives of each and every one of His servants.  God has a very different outlook concerning the lost of this world.

We are aware that God’s will is for each and every one of us here on Spaceship Earth to be saved by faith in the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.  Once we receive that saving grace, we belong, body and soul, to the Lord.  We are legally and literally adopted into the family of God.

“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.” – Romans 8:29

We, the saved, are literally part of God’s family and Jesus is the firstborn or eldest among us and so worthy of our honor and respect and service.  However, this is not the case with the lost.

The Bible refers to the unsaved in many ways.  One of the most common is to speak of the lost as blind.

“What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded.” Romans 11:7

According to Romans, the elect, or saved people have obtained what they seek but the rest are blinded and unable to see it.  If you are walking down a crowded street and someone wielding a white cane and dark glasses bumps into you and knocks you over, do you leap to your feet and retaliate?  Do you hold them accountable for their misdirection?

The Bible also refers to the lost as dead in sin.  The most evil and prolific of criminals, once he dies, is no longer held accountable for his crimes.  We don’t serve warrants on corpses.  The dead are not responsible for anything.

These are some of the ways that God views the lost.  How does this affect His dealing with them?

“If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.” – Hebrews 12:7-8

These verses hold the key to my revelation.  God chastises those whom He loves.  He paddles His own children like any good parent but He does not concern himself with the behavior of the lost children.  His attitude to them is one of mercy and forgiveness.  God is described many times over in scripture as long-suffering and patient with the sinner.  he calls to them.  The Holy Spirit appeals to them.  He does NOT chastise them for their sins any more than you would rebuke a blind man for bumping into you.  Now we get to the meat of the matter.  Lets look at our foundation verse again…

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14

God is telling us that if HIS people, called by HIS name, will humble themselves and pray and repent, and turn from their wickedness, then He will come to their aid.  We blame our present darkness on the policies and propensities of the lost  but the Bible clearly states that they are not the cause of chastening from above….WE ARE.

It’s not the abortion doctor plying his evil trade that brings a curse upon America, it is the gossiping believer.  It is not the secular humanist declaring God dead that brings about wrath and woe, it is the church member who sits through sermon after sermon on Sunday and then goes to his or her workplace on Monday and does nothing to share the good news that they heard the day before.  It is not the drug dealer, the school shooter, the thief, or the prostitute that is bringing ruin upon our land, it is the complacent, uncaring, or compromising Christian that incites the ire of the Almighty.  MY PEOPLE, CALLED BY MY NAME…”  God deals with his own.  He does not chastise those who don’t belong to him.

“And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did?” – Luke 9:54

The disciples wanted to call down wrath upon the unbelieving of the Samaritan village because they would not receive him and Jesus forbade them.  The lost have their place in judgment and it is coming for them like a thief in the night.  Until then, the filthy will remain so unless they repent.

He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.” – Revelations 22:11

Should the lost man become a child of God then the relationship changes.  I would not allow some stranger to live in my house and eat at my table but neither would I involve myself in his behaviors unless they affected me directly.  Chastisement is wasted upon the lost.  Until they are saved they can not be justified outside of the law and no amount of punishment can make them obey it successfully.  It is wasted effort.

The unsaved and their machinations are not the root cause of our troubles, they are symptoms.  They are part of the punishment.  God often uses the lost to chastise His children.  Oddly enough, the children of always the better for it and the instruments of His wrath are usually destroyed by it.

What is important for us, however, is what needs to be done to heal our land and who needs to do it.  The believers must repent.  The believers must end the complacency that allowed these abominations to enter into our lives.  We, the saved, must repent of our laziness, cowardice, uncaring attitude, or anything else that keeps us from serving God to the fullest.  Only then will He heed our prayers and heal our land.  Only then will America become what she once was and can be again.  Only when Christians join together in an attitude of repentance and prayer will things be right again.  I only pray it is not too late.  God is actively interested in every aspect of the Christian life and He wants it to be blessed, but only on His terms.  As for the lost, if the abortion doctor or the humanist or the drug dealer repents and believes then that person is made a new creature and the old evil person is gone.  That is how we retake our country.  When every American believes that Jesus Christ died for their sins and accepts in their heart that they are sinners in need of a savior then there will be nobody left to run abortion clinics or institute antichristian policy in government.  If you are a believer and not living like you should then YOU are at fault.  I guess I answered my question.

Let me begin by making it clear that this is not a sermon in any way.  It is merely a question.  I have heard, all my life, various and sundry ideas or theories about vague shadowy secret organizations, who, in one form or another, were controlling the course of the world and its great mass of sheep-like people for their own greedy ends.  Like most moderately intelligent folks I dismissed these ideas on the grounds that the logistics of managing a secret world government and keeping it secret, would at the very least, stretch the bonds of human ability to the breaking point.  There are just too many moving parts necessary for it to be possible…or so I had always thought.

Today I watched the video that I have embedded into this post.  It is a fairly long movie but the general premise is that a shadowy group of power brokers and elitist businessmen are secretly controlling every aspect of American, and indeed World, government.  It would be wise now to pause and spend the next hour or so viewing the video to be able to give this post a fair hearing.  You should probably view the movie quickly in case there is something to this theory. They (the all-powerful and invisible they) will probably not let the video remain online once it is discovered. According to the film, a consortium called the Bilderberg Group is forming, or has already formed a shadow government dedicated to destroying civil liberty, national sovereignty, and the basic rights that we as Americans have come to enjoy (and take so much for granted).  These world political and business leaders are using their positions as bankers and policy makers to initiate a vast plan of government and economic manipulation designed to bring the common people of the world into slavery (or at least serfdom) under a single world government.  Through the principles of Eugenics they are even conspiring to breed the common man (and woman) into a docile population of pliant worker drones.

The existence of the Bilderberg Group is not a myth.  The link I have provided is to a Wiki that lists the members and where they may be found.  The page should open in a new tab or window so you can check it out and then keep reading here.  The purpose, after all, is to provide me with an answer to my question.  You will recognize many of the names and positions.  The group holds meetings every four years.  With each member, the years which they have attended are also listed.  The meetings have reportedly been held since 1954 and are conducted under the utmost secrecy and security.  Even the American Secret Service is supposed to be involved in securing the sites.1 The buildings where the meetings are held are simply thick with ex military types in sunglasses and ear phones, each carrying more firepower than an entire platoon of infantry.

The group is, according to the film, an offshoot of the old Rothschild/Rockefeller conspiracy. Its manipulations are traced all the way back to feudal Europe and it is blamed for starting or at least encouraging every major war since Napoleon met Wellington. I have heard many different variations of this same story over the years, and , once again, had dismissed them all. The Rockefeller and the Rothschild families were in cahoots with everyone from the UN to the Illuminati. Every single influential person on Earth was considered a member or had been co-opted by the vast wealth at play here. Groups like the Masons and possibly even the Mooses are their tools and leg-men, and they have predetermined the results of every major election in every country in the world since Greece. These guys could give statecraft and treachery lessons to Machiavelli and are so stealthy that the combined might of the world’s intelligence agencies can not even find of whiff of their nefarious machinations. The video puts them behind every major event in our culture from World War I to the instigation of the Trans-Texas Corridor and NAFTA. Anyhow, you get the idea. These guys are good at being bad.

Now to my question. As stated, I had dismissed the very idea of something this involved and complex as being beyond human capability. I acknowledge the existence, or at least the possibility of an antichrist figure in the world who will bring everyone under a single rule but I believe his rule will not be the result of a long-term conspiracy coming to fruition. It will be, rather, as the result of foolish people being fooled by what they see. Satan himself might be able to pull this off but, as often as not, his servants get in each other’s way and do harm to their own cause. (“Oft evil will shall evil mar” – Théoden King of Rohan) And yet, as I look around me I can begin to see why people could think that some great evil is responsible for the World’s ills. Too many things are synergistically working against us. Bizarre and wacky political decisions are the norm. We allow ourselves to be anesthetized by celebrity gossip and “reality” TV while real issues go unresolved and often, unreported. I suppose then, my question is…Is it real? Do the theories and ideas I have so long laughed off and ignored, have merit? IS SOMETHING GOING ON WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT??? What do you think? This one time I would like to see comments (well thought out opinions only please and be ready to cite sources (or at least sites) to back up your ideas. Is the IRS about to become the new Gestapo? Is the UN in charge of the New World Order? Somebody introduce me to the new Boss. Is he the same as the old Boss?? By the way, if you are a member of this secret society and are reading this, please don’t have me executed. I just wanna know who to salute.
