Split Second February 7, 2010

I think this blog is turning into a movie review whether I like it or not.  I just finished watching Split Second with Rutger Hauer and Kim Cattrell.  This is a low budget thriller that cost a lot of money.  It stars Kim Cattrall and Rutger Hauer and involves much cursing, shooting, and chocolate.  Hauer’s partner is killed by a serial killer right under rutger’s nose.  It drives him ’round the bend.  He ends up having an affair with the partner’s wife and then dumping her.  The guilt drives him to obsession about finding the killer of his partner.  The movie, after this tiny bit of exposition, spends the rest of its running time doing just that,,,running.  Hauer and his new partner run up stairs,  down stairs,  through a morgue, across an apartment.  This is like a movie on a treadmill.  Finally they run into subway tunnels and, in an oddly anit-climactic confrontation, kill the bad guy (I won’t tell you what the bad guy’s deal is but will let you know that he needs dental work).  I enjoy watching this movie.  It is interesting and serves a similar purpose to pre-sweetened breakfast cereal.  I watch it to take up time when I can’t think of anything else to watch.  Having said that,  I do NOT think it is a good movie.  There is too much running around and not enough development.  What brought the serial killer into the world?  Why did he pick out Rutger Hauer?  Too many questions are left unanswered or glossed over.  While it is fun to watch, I could get the same entertainment from a series of random explosions and gunfire.
For those of you who have not seen it…
